I was tasked to create these weapons based on concept art provided from our concept artist. A core mechanic of the game is that all the weapons have interchangeable parts. So that made the job tricky with modeling. Because the same stock that fit an AR weapon system, had to fit an AK or even an CZ scorpion or MP5. Conceptually it wasn't that hard, but modeling-wise, making sure everything "worked" was a very interesting challenge.
The system was basically built upon the need of finding and applying modifications on the fly during the game. The game itself explained it best "Powered by NWS™ (New Weapon Systems) this industry-wide standard has allowed weapons manufacturers to interchange attachments and core parts at will. Take an SMG and turn it into an Assault Rifle or take an Assault Rifle and turn it into a DMR. Throughout the story, you will unlock attachments and weapons via stashes found around the environments that allow you to build and customize weapons on the fly."
